This week we are celebrating our unsung heroes in the emergency communications center. These are the people behind 911 emergency calls that help to save lives every day. Telecommunicators provide a reassuring voice, guidance, and send help to folks in need.
Over the past year, Raleigh like so many other organizations faced many challenges due to COVID and staff turnover. We were able to maintain national standards in call response time due to the dedicated work of the Raleigh-Wake telecommunicators who stepped up and filled in where needed. In 2021 Raleigh-Wake telecommunicators took 542,751 emergency 911 calls and dispatched 461,811 public safety calls to police, fire, and EMS.
