Become a Raleigh Firefighter - Applications Due Oct. 10

The application period for the 2024 Fire Academy is taking place Sept. 1 through Oct. 10 and the academy is scheduled to start on Feb. 12, 2024. The application form is now available.

Becoming a firefighter for the City of Raleigh is a highly-competitive process. Raleigh Fire receives applications from men and women of varying backgrounds and experiences and as a result, the department is a diverse group of people from across North Carolina and the United States.

The starting salary for a firefighter is $46,540.
 

Fire Academy Candidate Requirements

Candidates are required to meet the rigorous physical and mental demands of the job, but no previous firefighting experience is required. 

Candidates must:

  • be at least 19 years old by the first day of the academy;
  • have a high school diploma or equivalent (proof required);
  • have corrected vision of at least 20/30 in both eyes;
  • have an operational telephone; and,
  • have a valid driver’s license.
