Project Overview
The 2022 Raleigh Parks Bond allocates $2,000,000 to improve Leesville Community Park and Strickland Road Park. Proposed site improvements at both parks include permanent restroom facilities and improved amenities.
Leesville Community Park is an existing 56-acre neighborhood park located on Country Trail in northwest Raleigh. The Leesville Community Park Master Plan was adopted in May 2007. Current facilities include a Wake County’s Leesville Community Library with shared parking lots, a temporary restroom facility, and a playground. Proposed improvements include playground expansion with shade structure, new restroom building, outdoor reading nook, and electric vehicle charging stations.
Strickland Road Park is an existing 36-acre neighborhood park located on Strickland Road in northwest Raleigh. Current Park facilities include a parking lot, playground, and natural trails. Proposed improvements include a new restroom building, an accessible paved path and overlook area, a parking lot, stormwater improvements, new playground surfacing, and electric vehicle charging stations.
On February 15, 2024, the Parks, Recreation and Greenway Advisory Board approved the schematic designs for both projects. The project is currently under the final design and permitting phase with construction planned for 2025.
