Minimum Requirements: At least 6 yrs of experience operating a large water treatment plant or 6 years of experience as a licensed professional engineer involving water treatment plant design and modification, water distribution system design, process wastewater treatment and disposal, water quality modeling or State and Federal regulatory development, evaluation and compliance is required. Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Knowledge of MS Office software. Level A-Well certification preferred. Licensure in North Carolina as a Professional Engineer preferred. Level A-Surface Water Treatment Certification or ability to acquire a Level-A Surface Water Treatment Certification is required. A Valid NC Class "C" Driver's License.
Position Duties:
Manages 5-7 subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 75-79 employees in raw water processing, finishing water pumping, process wastewater treatment, remote facilities operation/maintenance which include potable water booster pump stations, elevated and at grade storage tanks, lake and dam warning system. Assumes responsibility for analytical water laboratory, distribution system water quality monitoring and response program, and the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Interviews, hires, and trains employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; appraises performance, rewards and disciplines employees, addresses complaints and resolves problems. Coordinates the day-to-day operation, maintenance and regulatory compliance of the facilities including the waste treatment component of each water treatment facility. Prepares, manages and monitors an operating budget for the Water Plant division. Reviews regulatory issues to ensure that the water treatment facilities stay in compliance with relevant laws and regulations; reviews and monitors construction projections and maintains plant operations while contractors work; reviews proposals for upgrades, modifications and new construction, and recommends firms. Develops solutions to complex technical problems related to water treatment and maintenance. Ensures safety of all staff and the facility.
