Yard Waste Center
The State of N.C. mandates prohibit yard waste from being disposed of in landfills. The City of Raleigh opened the Yard Waste Center to recycle the city’s yard waste materials into wood chips, mulch and compost. The center’s 53 acres also serve as a disposal site for massive amounts of vegetative storm debris after natural disasters. In a typical year the center processes nearly 50,000 tons of yard waste debris.
- Yard waste debris is accepted, for a fee, from within the corporate city limits of Raleigh.
- Trash, stumps, treated lumber, or any building materials are not accepted. The Yard Waste Center provides for recycling of yard waste materials only.
- Wood chips, mulch and compost are available for sale to the general public.
- Wood chips, mulch and compost products are used throughout the city in parks and greenways.
- Compost training is available onsite.
- A processing area is located onsite for firewood for the needy through Warmth for Wake.
The Yard Waste Center is located at 900 N. New Hope Road, off of Highway 64 East. Normal hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Additional information may be obtained here or by calling 919-250-2728.
