Transportation Electrification and Alternative Fuels

All vehicles, from city fleet garbage trucks to residents' personal vehicles, contribute to the environmental impact of our car-dependent community. A shift to cleaner fuel technologies for vehicles is one of the biggest opportunities that Raleigh can make in reducing our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Electric vehicles (EVs) are a cleaner option than driving a standard gasoline vehicle as they produce no tailpipe emissions.

For larger fleet vehicles where EV technology is not yet viable, cleaner alternative fuels like propane and renewable natural gas can be used. The City is supporting the transition of our own fleet to electric and clean alternative fuels, while also supporting opportunities for the private adoption of EV infrastructure and clean fuels in the greater Raleigh community.
