Community engagement for Station Area Planning for the Western and Southern Bus Rapid Transit Corridors is on a brief pause. Staff will be reassessing the project goals before the next round of engagement. Engagement is expected to resume in the Winter of 2025. Thank you to everyone who is following along!
The Southern BRT Station Area Plan covers the area along South Wilmington Street, from downtown Raleigh to the Walmart Supercenter in Garner. The Community Leaders Group and Community Connectors will help the project reach more of the communities in the study area.

Community Leaders Group
The Southern BRT Station Area Planning Community Leaders Group is a group of 8 community members who the City Council appointed to help to ensure that the final Station Area Plans and the planning process reflect the needs and goals of the community. The Community Leaders will:
- Provide feedback on engagement, education strategies, and materials for public meetings.
- Confirm that the results of the study reflect the everyday experience of living, working, worshiping, shopping, and playing in the community.
- Help spread the word about the study and reinforce the message that we want to hear from the community.
The Community Leaders Group will meet regularly throughout the project. Meeting minutes will be posted when available.
Community Connectors
The Southern BRT Station Area Planning effort has recruited two Community Connectors to act as liaisons between residents and business owners along the corridor and city staff.
Their key roles include:
- Sharing information with the South Wilmington Street community to increase the understanding of the Southern BRT Station Area Planning project and process.
- Partnering with city staff to develop effective outreach strategies.
- Gathering information from residents and discussing key issues that are important for the community.
- Reinforcing the message that our study is only as strong as the level of community participation we have.
